Word Problems!

In Maths we looked at how to solve tricky word problems! We talked about reading the word problem carefully and then deciding what operation to do (addition or subtraction).

Mr Trutwein thought we did so well that he gave us a number sentence and we had to come up with our very own word problems, to match it. Have a listen to some of them...

Poetry performance

Year 1 have been learning about poetry and rhyming words! We learnt a new poem called 'On the playground'. We thought about our own experiences in the playground and wrote our own poems.

On Thursday, we had to perform the poem in front of the class and our teacher recorded it using a 'Flip' camera.

Year 1 Topic

Year 1's topic this term is 'Ourselves' and we have been learning about this through many different subjects like music, PE, Science, Literacy and many more!

We have looked at the different parts of the body and how they help us move in different ways. We also learnt about the five senses, how other animals move and how we are all different for example different eye colour, height, hair and so on...

We are having so much fun learning about ourselves and hope to learn even more!

Sponsored Dance Off!

To help us raise money for this fantastic company to visit Fairlop and share stories with our Nursery and Reception classes, we held a sponsored Fancy Dress walk and a Dance Off!

Nursery children wore their fancy dress and walked around the school field and Reception Classes did a dance off in the playground. Unfortunately, you will see from our short clip that we did not get to record all the event on video, so if any parents have film that we can use, please let Mrs Skinner (ICT Teacher) know!

Thanks to all the parents who attended and did so well in raising such a wonderful amount in sponsorship - we couldn't have done it without you! Watch our blogs to see how the children enjoy the storytelling event in the summer term.
